Seguridad objetiva y subjetiva en América Latina: aclarando la paradoja

Resumo

América Latina vive una epidemia de violencia a juzgar por los niveles de homicidios y de victimización delictiva. De acuerdo a la literatura, estos niveles de “seguridad objetiva” no se reflejan en los niveles de “seguridad subjetiva”, esto es, en las reacciones sociales hacia la (in)seguridad, generando una paradoja. Luego de analizar indicadores de seguridad objetiva y subjetiva, se realizaron regresiones para explorar dicha paradoja. Por un lado, altos niveles de homicidios predecerían en parte una mayor preocupación securitaria (dimensión colectiva cognitiva). Por otro, mayores niveles de victimización delictiva impactarían aún más en el temor a ser víctima en el barrio (dimensión individual afectiva), aunque no de manera mecánica. Se concluye con la necesidad de profundizar el estudio de las diferentes reacciones sociales hacia la inseguridad, dado que pueden erosionar el apoyo a la democracia, el desarrollo económico y el bienestar social en América Latina.
