DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND STRESS
A focus on the mental health condition of municipal civil guards

The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of symptoms of mental disorders among Municipal Civilian Guards and analyze the relationship between psychosocial aspects of work and mental illness. This is a cross-sectional study, which used the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) as instruments. Ninety-five guards participated. The results indicated low incidence of depression (20%), anxiety (19%) and stress (19%) among these professionals, and there is no statistical significance in the comparisons involving the symptoms of mental disorders with the control groups on work, physical demands and social support. It can be concluded that the levels of illness among the guards are low when compared to the indices indicated in the literature on this topic and that it is necessary to think about the health problems that affect these workers in order to minimize and/or prevent this illness from increasing.
