Resumen

Este documento sugiere un marco para reflexionar sobre la prevención de la violencia juvenil. La decisión sobre qué medidas de prevención de la delincuencia adoptar empieza por analizar no sólo su eficacia, sino también sus costes en distintas circunstancias. El segundo paso es igualmente difícil: la intervención debe centrarse en la localidad concreta donde se produce el problema, es decir, la atención debe recaer en aspectos más generales, como la juventud, la comunidad y la familia, que influyen en las posibilidades de que los jóvenes cometan delitos. Se trata de decisiones difíciles. Sin embargo, es muy importante conocer las consecuencias de los enfoques elegidos. Del mismo modo, es igualmente relevante considerar los efectos de no elegir otros enfoques.

Anthony N. Doob

Anthony N. Doob é professor do Centro de Criminologia, da Universidade de Toronto (Canadá), graduado pela Universidadede Harvard e doutor em psicologia pela Universidade de Stanford. Foi diretor do Centro de Criminologia, de 1979 a 1989,e membro da Comissão Canadense de Sentenciamento, de 1984 a 1987. Vem escrevendo sobre uma ampla gama detópicos que incluem o conhecimento e as atitudes do público sobre sentenças e outros aspectos do sistema da justiçacriminal, estrutura de funcionamento do sistema de justiça juvenil, efeitos impeditivos do sentenciamento, tendências doaprisionamento no Canadá e julgamentos de casos nos tribunais.
