Authors guideline
Submission Criteria
The Revista Brasileira de Segurança Pública accepts works by authors with at least a college degree that discuss Public Security, covering Law, Anthropology, Economy, History, Sociology and other areas of social sciences and applied social sciences.
Thus, original studies are published, with a minimum of 5000 words (not counting title, abstract, bibliographical references and appendixes) in Portuguese, English and Spanish, under the categories: i) original articles; ii) technical notes; and iii) interviews.
As part of the criteria of the Revista Brasileira de Segurança Pública we declare that we welcome submissions of papers written by authors external to the editorial team and the publishing entity. To submit papers to our journal please use the submission page.
Note: the main author with the minimum degree must submit the text if there are co-authors without the required degree.
Bibliographical References
References to authors in the text should follow the pattern (author, year) or (author, year: page), as in the examples: (Costa, 2020) or (Costa, 2020, p. 10). If there is more than one title of the same author in the same year, they are differentiated by a letter after the date: (Costa, 2020a), (Costa, 2020b) etc.
The bibliographical references should be cited at the end of the article, obeying the following criteria, following the NBR 6023:2002, of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT):
Book: author's last name (uppercase) /COMMA/ followed by the name (upper and lower case) /PERIOD/ title of the work in bold letters /PERIOD/ name of the translator /PERIOD/ edition number, if not the first edition /COMMA/ place of publication /COLON/ name of the publisher /COMMA/ date /PERIOD/.
Article: last name of the author, followed by the name (as in the previous item) /PERIOD/ title of the article / PERIOD/ name of the journal in bold /COMMA/ volume of the journal /COMMA/ issue number /COMMA/ date /COMMA/ page numbers /PERIOD/.
Chapter: author's last name, followed by the name (as in the previous items) /PERIOD/ title of the chapter /PERIOD/ In /COLON/ author's last name (uppercase) /COMMA/ followed by the name (upper and lower case) /PERIOD/ title of the work in boldface /PERIOD/ place of publication /COLON/ name of the publisher /COMMA/ date /PERIOD/.
Collection: last name of the organizer followed by the name (as in the previous items) /PERIOD/ title of the collection in bold letters /PERIOD/ name of the translator /PERIOD/ number of the edition, if it is not the first /COMMA/ place of publication /COLON/ name of the publisher /COMMA/ date /PERIOD/.
Academic theses: author's last name, followed by the name (as in the previous items) /PERIOD/ title of the thesis in bold letters /PERIOD/ number of pages /PERIOD/ academic degree to which it refers /DOUBLE DASH/ institution in which it was presented /COMMA/ date /PERIOD/.
Newspaper articles: author's last name (upper case) /COMMA/ followed by the name (upper and lower case) OR Name of Newspaper (upper case) /PERIOD/ Title of article: subtitle if any /PERIOD/ Name of Newspaper (bold letters) /PERIOD/ City /COMMA/ Date /PERIOD/ Available at: URL /PERIOD/ Acessed on: date /PERIOD/.
Charts and Tables
The inclusion of charts or tables must follow the following guidelines:
a) Charts, maps, tables etc. must be included in the text and in a separate Excel or similar file.
b) References to authors in the text should be as follows: (author, date) or (author, date, page).
c) Footnotes should be limited to complementary information of a substantive nature and should not exceed 3 lines.
The bibliographical criteria of Revista Brasileira de Segurança Pública is based on NBR 6023:2002, of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT).
Estimated Time for Paper Evaluation and Publication
Acceptance of text submission by the editors. Submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by the editorial board within 30 days.
Each reviewer has an average of 60 days to verify the relevance of the article to the editorial policy, theoretical and methodological adequacy, and contribution to the area of public security.
The revision of the manuscript, according to the opinions issued, takes 45 days.
The respective publication takes about 18 (eighteen) months.
