THE MEDIA AS A SECURITIZING AGENT OF PUBLIC SECURITY

The article presents the theory of securitization in its original formulation, its new approaches, the relationship between securitization and the media and public security, in addition to highlighting the function of the media and the role of newsworthiness (and telejournalism) in this process. A bibliographical study on the subject, carried out using the Publish or Perish software, showed that works on public security mechanically refer to the incidence of the media, but do not refer to the contributions of newsworthiness and securitization studies. We maintain that media agency on the subject occurs in a more decisive way than predicted by current theories of securitization. Finally, we explain in depth what we mean by newsworthiness when applied to the topic, highlighting the prominence of telejournalism in the public security securitization process.
