CRIMES, VIOLENCE AND LGBT POPULATION IN AMAZONAS

Abstract

The article discusses the issue of violence against the LGBT population in the State of Amazonas and practiced by it, in the period 2021 and 2022. The study is relevant insofar as these subjects, in addition to being persistent victims of various forms of violence that intensify each year, still suffer from processes of invisibilization both due to the lack of preparation of public agents to meet the demands, as well as due to failures in the instruments and/or mechanisms for recording occurrences and even due to lack of knowledge of the theoretical and normative foundations that involve the issue. Given this context, the study seeks to answer the following question: what is the profile of victims among the LGBT population in the State of Amazonas, the types of violence and the limitations of security agencies in the duty to protect these subjects? Therefore, a quantitative, exploratory, descriptive, bibliographical and documental study was developed. The statistical technique of exploratory data analysis was applied, with the demonstration of the studied phenomenon through tables and graphs. The results indicate that there are few records of crimes reported in the capital and in the interior of Amazonas - representing 0.36% of the total - involving homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual men and women. Violence markers such as homophobia and transphobia, as well as categories such as gender, sexuality, race and intersectionality are not identified in the records. Furthermore, data on LGBT victims are few and very poorly structured. Often there is an inversion of victims to perpetrators due to flaws in the elaboration of BO`s, contributing to the invisibility of the violence suffered by these subjects and the worsening of the situation.
