This article aims to review the literature on performance in police organizations. The research took place in databases of scientific articles, which were cataloged and later classified and selected for analysis using the inOrdinatio method. The intended theoretical scope is to identify how studies have been examining performance in police organizations. After deepening the analysis and focusing on management, it was possible to classify the articles into three levels: individual, which addresses performance from the perspective of the individual police officer (including factors tied to satisfaction, initiative, motivation, leadership, and sense of justice), organizational, which considers performance from the perspective of supra-individual indicators, and institutional, which is anchored in legitimacy as a way to evaluate performance. Notably, no studies were found that addressed the performance relationship between the levels, a novel suggestion for new research that could potentially open new avenues of research.
