Author Biographies

Paula Ferreira Poncioni, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

Paula began her professional life at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in a pioneering project to implement Social Work in police stations in the state of Rio de Janeiro (1984-1990). This experience gave rise to an interest in getting to know complex police work, especially the people who carried it out - civil and military police officers, which was fostered by research carried out during my master's, doctoral and post-doctoral studies. As a researcher and lecturer in the Social Policy department at UFRJ (1990-2019), she sought to discuss public security as a springboard for reflecting on the state, individuals and professional groups, especially in Brazilian society. Currently retired from UFRJ, since 2019 she has been the editor of Revista Brasileira de Segurança Pública, a publication of the Brazilian Forum on Public Security.

Ludmila Ribeiro, Federal University of Minas Gerais

She is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and a researcher at the Center for the Study of Crime and Public Security (CRISP), both at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). She has a PhD in Sociology from the University Research Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IUPERJ), a master's degree and an undergraduate degree in Public Administration from the João Pinheiro Foundation and a law degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Florida, the University of Groningen and Texas State University.

Caio Morais Sena, Federal University of Minas Gerais

Graduated in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Worked as a volunteer researcher at the Center for the Study of Crime and Public Security (CRISP). In addition, part of my undergraduate degree was in International Exchange Program at the University of Jaén (Spain). Currently, as an editorial assistant, I contribute to the Brazilian Public Security Forum's Revista Brasileira de Segurança Pública.
